I attended a Christian women’s conference a couple of years ago, and one particular phrase from its theme jumped out at me: Be Brave. “Uh-oh,” I said. I immediately knew Jesus had a message for me that day. I have problems letting go.
I’m what some experts call a multipotentialite—a person who has many different interests and creative pursuits in life. Aside from not wanting to disappoint people who invite me to participate in an event or volunteer for a specific task, I am often interested in the mission or vision behind the work and find fulfillment in dabbling in all aspects. The concerning part for me is that once I’m involved,
I find it hard to move on when my part is finished.
Sometimes it’s scary for me to move forward and not know what will happen to the work I’m leaving behind. It’s even scarier to not know exactly what lies ahead. But when I grip an event or task I’m supposed to let go of, I’m not allowing Jesus to replace what I have.
That’s where bravery comes in. Jesus can’t put something else in my hands because they are already full. By opening my hands and letting go, only then can He give me more or lead me to the next place in my life.
Letting go can be scary at times, but I feel brave knowing that when I open my hands, Jesus will be there to hold them.
